Date/Time : March 26th Topic : Reading. Dr. Felicia Ciappetta  Teacher   presentation : Allergies   Classroom   management : The class was well paced and Dr. Ciappetta opened up with casual conversation before moving on to their lesson. They each took time to read the article within small groups Materials : A worksheet of an article about peanut allergies which the students could edit. There were also questions related to the article that the students had to be able to answer.  Student   participation : Each student were asked to answer questions from Dr. Ciappetta about the article and she would ask questions for schema building, asking about allergies that we may have  Feedback : Dr. Ciappetta would add feedback verbally as the students answered questions   Lessons : Reading comprehension

Perfect continuous tenses  Classroom   management : The class was well paced and Dr. Ciappetta opened up with casual conversation before moving on to their lesson. Materials : Shared Google Docs, each assigned to each student where they would work on fill-in-the-blank worksheets.  Student   participation : Each student worked on their Google Doc while the instructor checked in Feedback : Dr. Ciappetta would add feedback through comments if their answers were incorrect  Lessons : Grammar. How to write a thesis statement and support it.  Classroom   management : The class was mostly independent as they worked on their essays using a template provided by the instructor.  Materials : A printed essay help sheet  Student   participation : Each student worked independently to write their essay topic and periodically would ask the instructor for feedback.  Feedback : Feedback on their writing such as repeating phrases.  Lessons : Thesis statements in essay writing

Feedback provided to the tutee:  In this meeting, Dauren and I discussed our respective plans for the summer. He got a job offer on campus, and we talked about what that will be like. Finally, we said our farewells and wished each other the best in the future. We promised to stay in touch.  Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Dauren showed real improvement over the course of the semester, particularly in his public speaking and presentation abilities. He has the confidence to communication, which is perhaps the most important thing to have.  Note: Tutoring sessions #19 and #20 are with Jordan Poveda.

He was concerned about taking a fully online class, so I helped him understand how that type of class is different.  Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Dauren is concerned about his future course load, which I imagine is made more difficult by the language barrier.

  Kieran TS #16 Date/Time: April 28, 2025 at 3:30 pm Location: Strozier Topic/Skill: Canada Trip Feedback provided to the tutee:  In this meeting, Dauren revealed that he won a grant to travel to Canada, so we reviewed his letter together and discussed the requirements. Unfortunately, due to travel restrictions/dangers, his program advised him not to go. Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Despite his advanced level, Dauren uses a lot of translation aids when reading important documents, so he must be not totally confident in his ability.

We reviewed his pronunciation of difficult words, and made notes to help him during the presentation. Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Dauren does not mind public speaking, but his pronunciation becomes more unclear and stilted while giving a presentation, likely due to nerves.

I corrected his errors, but that was all.  Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: It is hard to learn or speak a second language when very tired or overwhelmed.

We then practiced the words he struggled with. Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Dauren struggled with the inconsistency of English pronunciation, particularly J/G.

We discussed our Spring Break activities, and I helped him with some questions he had about his homework. Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned more about Jordan's hobbies. Note: Unexpectedly, this was my last meeting with Jordan, as he soon after said he could not complete more tutoring sessions. I am still not sure what happened with him.
