Date : March 25, 2025 Location : On Zoom  Topic : Speaking Feedback : I provided my student with basic questions to get an understanding of his proficiency since he is an advanced speaker.   Lesson : Student is advanced, but seems to struggle with more advanced adjectives to describe events/work/life.

  Kieran CO #5 Date/Time: Wednesday, March 5, 2025 Topic/Skill:  Reading (Beginner) Teacher Presentation:  Mr. Flemming opened class by introducing the syllabus and plan for the whole session. He explained the grading policy and class expectations to students. He spoke clearly and slowly, as the students in this course are just beginning to learn English. The class was split into two groups (1 and 2) based on the students' levels.   Next, Mr. Flemming asked students to discuss some questions about music. This was a prelude to an article about traditional Nigerian music. Students took time to read the article, occasionally asking questions about new vocabulary.  Classroom Management:  Mr. Flemming asked students questions, rather than just explaining things immediately. When students were interested in a topic, Mr. Flemming would take a few minutes to explore it and teach related vocabulary.  Materials:  Canvas, whiteboard, laptops Student...

We practiced his pronunciation of more difficult words, and I gave feedback and tips.   Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: ESL speakers struggle with letters which change in sound depending on the word. The lack of patterns creates a struggle for them.

We discussed parks, museums, movies, and restaurants. I provided the tutee with feedback on his grammatical mistakes and with new vocabulary.   Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Even advanced ESL speakers will not know words a native speaker might consider basic.

My tutee is an advanced English speaker, and mainly wants to focus on developing his speaking and pronunciation skills.  Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Advanced ESL students are mostly focused on communicating more effectively and clearly.

Date/time: March 4 Topic: listening Teacher presentation: teacher presented mardi gras listening exercise and one about eyes. Further, there was a vocabulary warmup Classroom management: the teacher made sure student response to questions were within time Materials used: Canvas Student participation: students worked in groups and answered comprehension questions on canvas Feedback provided: when going over vocabulary students were corrected if the definition did not match the word. Lessons: incorporate vocabulary into lessons but do not go overboard

Date/Time: March 4 Topic: speaking Teacher presentation: the teacher modeled how to do timed speaking and come up with solutions to problems presented Classroom management: the teacher let a number of students share but kept in mind the time left in the class Materials: No online materials were used only the wipe-boards Student participation: students tried timed speaking with a couple prompts  Feedback: students were corrected on their form and whether their timed speaking met the rubric (e.g., having examples and reasons) Lessons: Let students who want to participate do so but if a student who does not normally participate wants to then make sure to allow them

Date/time: March 4 Topic/skill: writing Teacher presentation: there was no presentation as the students were reviewing their own essay and the feedback in them Classroom management: there was little classroom management as the class was only about one thing reviewing the essays Materials: google docs Student participation: Students were reading the feedback given on their work feedback: The teacher provided comments on the essays in google docs Lessons: One can use google scholar or news article for intermediate level material

 Date/Time: March 4 Topic/skill: grammar Teacher presentation: Present the topic of past continuous to the students  Classroom management: The teacher made sure each part of the lesson was covered Materials: Word  Student participation: Students looked at a presented picture and responded with what was happening Feedback: The teacher would ask the student repeat what they said if they used the wrong grammar until corrected Lessons: make the lessons lively and let the students correct their own grammar

 Date/Time: March 4 Topic/Skill: Composition/essay writing Teacher presentation: the teacher modeled how to outline an essay with a few bullet points under each potential topic. Classroom management: the teacher timed each piece of the activity so that he hit everything Materials: Word student participation: students followed this example and added a few bullets under each of their essay topics Feedback: feedback was provided to students when the teacher went around and checked to make sure each student was understanding and helped them when needed Lessons learned: check to ask if the students needs more information about the activity before proceeding
